Un cours de langue/The language class
Solo theatre show, 2024-2025, Paris, France, 20 min
Written and performed by Veronika Shuster
In this one-woman show, you become students, transported into an imaginary classroom. Your teacher, a Ukrainian actress still learning French, invites you to explore the language from different perspectives: political, by addressing linguistic colonialism; philosophical, through the ideas of Wittgenstein; and personal, by sharing her own immigration journey.
Between loss and rediscovery in translation, between a mix of languages, this performance — imagined, written, and performed by a woman — explores identity and communication beyond borders as both an artistic and political act.
On stage, there is nothing but a school blackboard, where the chapters structuring the performance are written — an attempt to bring order to the chaos of the world around us.
